Roe V. Wade: History, Status, & the Jewish Perspective

Wednesday, June 15, 2022 16 Sivan 5782

7:00 PM - 8:15 PM

News of the U.S. Supreme Court's pending decision on the status of the historic ruling, Roe vs. Wade, has been met with many questions. What did the 1973 ruling mean? What has transpired in the intervening years? How will lives be affected if this law is overturned? And what is the Jewish perspective on reproductive rights?

Please join us on Wednesday, June 15th, 7:00-8:15 p.m., when Rabbi Rachel Heaps will engage in conversation on these topics with three local thought leaders:

  • Emily Werth is a Staff Attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois where her work focuses on women and reproductive rights.
  • Oren Jacobson co-founded and now serves as Co-executive director of Men4Choice. He also serves on the board of Personal PAC, a non-partisan political action committee dedicated to protecting and advancing reproductive rights for all women.
  • Rabbi Paul Cohen, D. Min., D.D. has served as Temple Jeremiah's Senior Rabbi since 2000. Among his many honors and achievements, Rabbi Cohen was named a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem in 2016. His love of teaching and learning will help us to understand the Jewish perspective on reproductive rights.
  • Our Associate Rabbi Rachel Heaps was ordained in May 2017. Her passion for Jewish learning and interacting with a diverse group of people make her the natural moderator for this program.

We hope you will take part in this very important conversation.
