Racism in the Justice System and the Pre-Trial Fairness Act

Sunday, January 17, 2021 4 Sh'vat 5781

4:00 PM - 5:30 PMZoom

On Sunday, January 17th from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m., join us to discuss the Pretrial Fairness Act. Please register below to receive the Zoom link.

This proposed state legislation addresses racism in the criminal justice system by calling for the abolishment of cash bail, which would ensure that people don’t await trial in jail just because they can’t afford a bond. Discussion topics will include exploring systemic racism in the justice system and the necessity for legislation that addresses socio-economic and racial inequality.

This event will host an expert panel featuring Sen. Robert Peters, the sponsor of the bill, past president of the Chicago Bar Association Victor Henderson, J.D., and Temple Jeremiah member Dawn Projansky Lavin, civil rights and criminal attorney. The event will be moderated by Rabbi Cohen.

Contact Dawn Lavin with any questions.
